Privacy
Local-only. Nothing leaves this Mac.
Highlights is local-only. Passages, notes, and settings stay in a library on this Mac. There is no Highlights account, no Highlights server, and no analytics.
What we collect
Nothing. Highlights does not collect personal data, does not sign you in, and does not send crash reports or usage events.
What stays on this Mac
Your library is a local SQLite database. Import reads files you already have: Apple Books annotation databases, Kindle My Clippings.txt, Google Play Books notes you saved, and PDFs that already contain highlights (Preview, Acrobat, and similar).
Mac App Store and Direct
The Mac App Store edition only uses files you drop or choose. The Direct edition can also read local Apple Books databases after you Allow in macOS. Neither edition uploads your library.
How to delete
Choose File → Clear All in Highlights. That removes Highlights’ own library. It does not change Apple Books, Kindle, Google Play Books, or PDF files on disk.
